Star Wars: X-Wing (Jewel Case)

Star Wars: X-Wing (Jewel Case) Review

A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (actually, it's ours), I was playing a lot of old Super Nintendo games on my PC with emulators. Then I thought, hey, I have a 600mhz with 256 ram, and lots of hard drive space, so why don't I try one of these new-fangled hi-tech 3D PC games? Well, this is actually quite an old game but if you have anything close to my PC's specs, and you are anything close to a fan of Star Wars, this is truly a fantastic ride. I recommend one has a gamepad or joystick (...). My gamepad works great (it is similar to the old Playstation One controller). I plug in my headphones (also recommended), pump up the volume, and off I go into space, flying around in the infinite void, shooting tie fighters, star cruisers of the evil empire, and generally having a ton of fun.pThis version of the game also has a whole additional game on it also, and with a 3D video card (even the most basic), the graphics are amazing. Dated, but hey, this puts the graphics of the old SNES to shame. It is VERY easy to set up and get started, and can be as tough as you want it. I've hardly even scratched the surface of all the various features and levels and know I have a lot of future fun in store for me with this. The music, while in midi form, is (to me) almost indistinguishable from MP3 quality stuff. And you get a lot of music. All sorts of variations on John William's great Star Wars scores.pThere are also a ton of options. You can turn the music up or down, or off. You can turn the sound effects (also great) up or down or off. You can play your OWN music (MP3's) if you want while playing the game. Try some electronica/trance, or some Pink Floyd! Get creative, have fun. You can give yourself unlimited weapons and make yourself and your ship invulnerable to damage. The possibilites truly are endless. This is halfway between an arcade type shooter and a true space combat simulator, with various levels of both. In a short time, I have played the game for dozens of hours already, and am still discovering new things, and cool features. There is a neat pilot training feature, a "film" room, talking characters and background voices, it goes on and on. I can't believe I waited so long to buy/play this, but then, I am but a young, struggling Jedi-starfighter who has been deserted on a lonely planet for awhile.pIf you have ever wanted to fly off into space in a variety of ships and enjoy the trip without leaving your PC, and if you are at all even the most casual Star Wars fan, you just gotta buy this, and now! You don't know what you're missing if you've never played. Smoke 'em if you've got 'em, and/or have a drink to warm your innards, turn down the lights, get that gamepad or joystick in hand, put on the headphones, and escape into the ride of your life. .. Amazing! And I haven't touched any of my old SNES rom games since buying this. Best [$$] you'll ever invest in a whole universe of fun, which you can visit any time you want to escape from earthbound reality for awhile. Did I mention that although it's a jewel case, there's a HUGE free instructional manual? What are you waiting for?pI know more recent and better graphically-enhanced Star Wars games are out there, and I've sampled them, but the system requirements on this make it playable for almost ANYONE with a PC, and for now, I'd like you to stop reading this, and go click this classic gem (and still unequaled in many ways) into your shopping cart NOW! You will thank me later, and as always, "May the Force be with you..." This software is BRAND NEW. Packaging may differ slightly from the stock photo above. A GAME LIGHTYEARS AHEAD OF IT'S TIME - EMAN NEP -
I remember playing the original version of this on my old computer that only had 33MHz of speed. But despite that, X-Wing ran absolutley great on my computer, allowing me to play one of THE BEST space simulations EVER! Hey, I would even go so far to say that this is one of the best FLIGHT simulations ever! br /br /The graphics and sound effects were outstanding. The X-Wing models looked SO real! Sometimes I felt that if I touched my computer screen I would touch the metal frame of the X-Wing itself!br /br /Excellent flight controls that allow you to CONTROL your ship. Flying itself was pretty self-explanatory, just point the mouse where you want to go and hit the accelerator. But if you were under attack--or attacking--you could reconfigure your shields, lasers, and even your engine power to suit your needs at that precise moment. You could fire some of your lasers or all of them. You could make your shields protect the front or rear of your ship, depending if you were being attacked head-on or from behind. Even an eject button with a special animation and End-Scene to show you what your fate is.br /br /The missions range from escorting ships, conducting difficult rescue operations, clearing mine fields, attacking huge starships (and later the Death Star itself), reconnaisance, you name it.br /br /X-Wing is a HARD game though. Some of the rescue missions require that you know beforehand which ship has the prisoners on them. And one level that just killed me: You are flying among literally DOZENS of mines, that all fire at you, while you're trying to identify supplies . . . and then enemy reinforcements arrive!br /br /But as hard as some of these missions were, the game had so much depth that it was nearly impossible to not want to play more, to see what would happen next. br /br /Finally, I want to say that I LOVE the after-battle camera system in X-Wing. Even today, I think it is one of the best. You can replay the entire mission and see the whole mission unfold from the enemy's POV, allies POV, even stationary objects POV, and a free space camera that just sits in space and watches from a fixed point. You could also pause at any point and move the camera to see just exactly where and how that laser clipped your wing.br /br /And nothing makes you feel more rewarded than a chest full of medals for doing great things for the Republic!br /br /In a galaxy full of Star Wars games, this game shines as one of the best.

it's all right - Forrest Daniels - Greenview CA USA
i like the story and plot and the cutscenes but the only hard part about it is that it won't let you cheat and go on the next level like in tie fighter and there's not really all that much you can do besides shoot things with lasers when you should be converting it to engines and using misiles or torpedoes that's all i have to say

SimCity 2000 Special Edition (Jewel Case)

SimCity 2000 Special Edition (Jewel Case) Review

Sim City 2000 - Special Edition - Retail Boxbr /br /The ultimate city simulator. You design, build, and customize any city you can imagine, and Sim City 2000 SE will bring it and its resident Sims to life. Includes the Urban Renewal Kit and Scenarios Vol. 1--all on one CD-ROM.br /br /This is the most popular sim of all time, cranked up to a high-tech gloss and packaged with all the popular expansion sets. The original SimCity gave players the opportunity to create and oversee the growth of a living city as well as all its problems: crime, pollution, zoning demands, power outages, traffic foul-ups, and the occasional tornado, nuclear meltdown, or wandering monster from the sea. Less a game in the usual sense of the word than a sort of electronic ant farm, SimCity let players see how they fared as mayor, architect and town council. Now SimCity 2000 adds adjustable topography to the fun, using a terrain editor which can create mountains, valleys, ravines, etc. (The new types of terrain also permit the construction of hydroelectric dams and water towers.) Necessitated by this new addition is a new viewing engine, which rotates the player's municipality in 90 degree increments, so that new mountaintop university doesn't block your view of the burgeoning slum down below. As the town progresses through the decades, the sheer size and technological sophistication of your creations become more and more outlandish, and the resultant metropolis ends up looking like something out of Blade Runner. It can take quite a while to become familiar with Maxis' Sim series, and even longer to actually succeed at long-term city goals. Once you get beyond the learning curve, however, the cycle of planning, construction and urban renewal leads to a rewarding creation. And, as always, hard-won cities from earlier versions of the game can be imported for alteration and experimentation.br /br /Publisher: Electronic Artsbr /br /Media: CD-ROMbr /br /Operating Systems: Windows 95, Windows 98br / This software is BRAND NEW. Still a great game... - Jack Pyles - Olive Branch, MS
Great game. I recently purchased this game again so I'd have something to do on long flights and when I get tired of the internet... It had been years since I played it, but even today, it's fun to play...I've even started teaching my 9 year old daughter the strategies and she loves it!

Roller Coaster Tycoon (Jewel Case)

Roller Coaster Tycoon (Jewel Case) Review

Before purchasing RollerCoaster Tycoon for myself I decided to borrow it from a friend - just to be sure it was something I would enjoy. I personally enjoy games that provide a challenge without being over-the-top/insanely difficult. And, I have to say that this game fit the bill, and from day one I just couldn't get enough of it!br /br /In RollerCoaster Tycoon your job is to create the "ultimate" theme park - a place where everyone wants to go to have fun, relax, and spend all that money that's been burning a hole in their pocket (smile). You do this by:br /br /*Choosing (or creating for yourself) which rides, eating establishments, souveneir stalls to purchase, as well as where to place them how much to charge your customers for each.br /br /*Determining how much to charge for entry into your park. This will increase over time, as you build more rides such for your customers to enjoy.br /br /*Ensuring that you hire enough workers (handymen maintenance crews) to keep your park clean provide quick maintenance on your rides. If your park becomes dirty rides are down too long, you lose lots of current as well as potential customers until you get the problem fixed. br /br /*Determining the "right" amount of money to spend on research marketing - as the more you spend on research, the faster new rides stalls become available to you.br /br /*Paying attention to what customers are thinking how happy (or unhappy) they are. They'll let you know if prices are too high or the park is getting dirty, so be sure to check-in with them regularly.br /br /*Making the surroundings nice to look at by purchasing placing such things as benches, fountains, statues, etc... Also, you want to be sure to purchase plenty of trash cans so your customers have somewhere to dump their trash other than on the ground.br /br /*Checking-in to see the popularity of your rides, as this will change over time. If something is no longer popular you can always lower to the price to see if that helps, or get rid of it so that you can put something better in its place.br /br /In this game there are several different levels (or parks) to play, each with its' own challenges. Although I tend to play until I beat the challenge then move on, I have friends who continue to play, making up their own increasing challenges along the way. If you do the latter, this game could last you a VERY LONG time indeed!br /br /Overall, I think RollerCoaster Tycoon is a great game for older children adults alike! Not only is it great fun to play, but it teaches you (and/or your child) some of the most important factors of business, such as always paying attention to customer wants needs the types of products you're offering; the importance of marketing research, how interest builds up when you borrow money, etc... br /br /If you're new to "Tycoon"-type games (or even if you're not), you might want to try something like "Fairy Godmother Tycoon" first. This is another awesome game I found that helped me to get my feet wet with this genre of games.br /br /

I ordered the game from super liquidator and it doesn't work... it wont even fully install on my computer and then I can't uninstall it, then it causes my computer to freeze[and there is nothing wrong with my laptop] its set up just for gaming. I would not order this game from them. br /br /I used to own this game and it was fantastic, definitely my favorite computer game, to bad I moved and misplaced the disc.

Hours of Fun - jwhughes56 - Plano(Dallas), Texas
Bought this for my daughter who plays it for hours, but once I tried it I couldnt stop. Its not the same old thing over and over. New places, new rides, new setups. It can be a very addicting game. Easy learning curve.

Emergency Room 2 (Jewel Case)

Emergency Room 2 (Jewel Case) Review

I'm a 16 year-old aspiring nurse, and I got this game because I wanted to learn more about medicine. As other people have stated, this is *not* a game that you can just start playing and be good at, unless you work in healthcare or know a good deal about it. pSome problems that I have with the game:br- Occasionally a "patient" will come in with an injury in one of their extremities, let's say a badly scraped knee. When you get into the exam room, you can't immediately tell which knee it is, and sometimes they don't tell you. Because you lose points for performing unnecessary procedures, you are occasionally robbed of points because you check a normal body part first.br-Sometimes the CME (Continuing Medical Education) computer gives you bad advice. They tell you that most doctors will perform a certain kind of test, but if YOU perform that test, the game tells you that it was unnecessary.pOther than that, it's a pretty good game. When you do well in the exam room, the nurse flirts with you, which irritates me a bit because it means that the maker is assuming that all the players are guys, but other than that, it's fun.pThere are plenty of resources in the game to help you, so you don't need to be a medical expert to play - just be prepared to put a little time and effort into learning. This is an excellent game for people who are thinking about going into healthcare. Because you can select patients either randomly or by ailment, it's also a good way to study. Very Different - Vanessa - Battle Creek, MI
A very different game, it's pretty entertaning but it can get quite boring when you've already treated the baby that hit her head on a sprinkler a million times. Dr. D. Boss seems like a normal boss, a little nicer than some. p I don't know what her name is, but there is this nurse that flirts with you every chance she gets...which is quite comical. brDon't order unessacary procedures and tests, or else it will come back to bite you in the end.brThe graphics leave something to be desired, and it's kind of annoying when you treat this one brunette, 16 year old and once you get done treating her, you go back to the waiting room to select a new patient and she's there again!pThe same use of charecters makes you feel like you never treated that person at all. pIt can get a little boring and the patients can get rude, but if you play it in moderation, it will be okay.brGood luck to the new Dr. Carter's!

Freespace / Silent Threat Bundle (Jewel Case)

Freespace / Silent Threat Bundle (Jewel Case) Review

See more picture

I bought this game at Wal-Mart and I took it home and I was blown away by the details and realisim. I was happy that the game was based off of the Pentium 133 megahertz chip since that is what is in my system. Back to the game, The Great War DISKS! were the best games I ever played for PC. You start out as a fresh piliot and your first missions are traineing, so you get used to the controls. I DID NOT HAVE A JOYSTICK!!! BUT IT WORKED ANYWAY WITH THE NUMBERPAD ON THE KEYBOARD!!!! A joystick would be great but I beat it without one. A great feature was the ability to comunicate with your wingmen. The game has an extremely large amount of laser cannons, missiles, bombs, fighters, and bombers. There are three species in the game; Terrans (Humans), Vasudans, and the mysterious Shivans. The game starts out with you in the middle of a 14 year war (THE GREAT WAR, DUH!) but then a peace treaty is signed because the Shivans come roughing everyone up. But the game is still great. Silent Threat is an expansion pack that puts you at the end of the great war CD. You are a different piliot becuase the great war ends with you bustin up a Shivan destroyer that was gonna kill Sol (Earth). But you find out in Silent Threat that the piliots who killed that ship and saved (Earth) got stuck there because the explosion cause a cataclismic shut down of the only jump node to Sol that you skip through galaxies with. But in Silent Threat, you are working for the Terrans but you are part of the intel, black-ops squad. You go behind enemy lines to do the dangerous stuff. But now, that you are bored with me ramble, here are thebrHighs and LowspHighsbrLots of missions, ships, and weponsbrUnparralled detailsbrLots of repaly valuebrGREAT price and valuepLowsbrOccasionaly FrustratingbrYa know, thats about it:-)

Freespace / Silent Threat Bundle (Jewel Case) Feature

  • Bundle of classic spaceflight game and expansion pack
  • Over 40 new missions created by both the developer and fans
  • 40 different spacecraft to choose
  • Four new weapons to use
  • For 1 to 12 players using LAN or Internet
As the Great War rages on, you have been commissioned by the GTI (Galactic Terrain Intelligence) for special intelligence operations. In a matter of national security, you have been asked to go behind enemy lines in order to preserve the fragile space treaty. However, you'll soon discover that the GTI has other purposes in its mind.

My review for the Silent Threat Expansion Pack - Maria Celebi -
Silent Threat is overall satisfying expansion pack. It does feel a little cut, though. br /The missions themselves are an interesting variety of the normal Freespace missions, and you get to do "silence all rebels" sort of missions. They still tie them into the overall plot of Freespace quite well though, so they aren't lacking.br /br /On mission design, DESPITE what others have said, the last mission is possible. Hard, yes, but any self-respecting Freespace player can do it. I'm not ashamed to say that for my first try, I lowered the difficulty; though once you get then hang of it you can do harder difficulties. (Hint: try loading yourself with harbingers, and half the other pilot's fighters. If you have them engage the enemy fighters and cover you, you're fine) br /br /The team at volition also added a couple of new weapons and ships, and they're well balanced. The Zeus bomber in particular is nice. br /br /So, why do I say it could've been better? The campaign needed a bit more length. The ending didn't seem concrete, and it felt as if I should be going on to my next mission. Even just 2-3 more missions would've given it an OK ending.br /br /Still, this is still a great expansion pack to an even greater game... 4.5 out of 5, 5 out of 5 if they had more missions...br /br /

everything about it - - NC
yea the game plays good (not like those stupid mercinary games that you always find like tachyon your actually a pilot)graphics are extremely good expesually for 4 a 1998 game wide variety of strenghts and weaknesses in fighters and not so hard you cant beat 2nd mission (everyone knows a game like that somewhere) and by the way the 15 year old war with the vasudans was called the terran vasudan war the war with the shivans though was the great war also this game carries a mission creator named fred though hard to find all you have to do is go to search for files and folders and look for fred then make a shortcut of the icon that starts fred and place the shortcut on your desktop (and a helpful thing ctrl click on the map to add more ships)
